Web Assignment #5


  • How do you define beauty in photography?  Beauty in photography is just finding a way to make simple things look complicated and unreal.
  • What are the characteristics of photographic beauty? some characteristics are lighting, angle, and backdrop.
  • Can something "ugly" be photographed and be considered Beautiful? I think so
  • Why? How?   cause if its taken at the right moment or from a certain angle it could be a perfect picture. 
  • This picture is pretty but if you really look at it you would see that its really just a crooked tree with the moon in the background.

  • Who was Alfred Stieglitz and why is he noteworthy in the history of photography? Alfred Stieglitz is a American photographer and a modern art promoter. Stieglitz ran many NewYork art galleries, where he introduced many european artists to the U.S.  
  • This is one my favorites cause you can see the shadows the boats and buildings in the water.  


  • Alfred Stieglitz was in a relationship with Georgia O' Keeffe. She was a american artist.

Q:What is brownie camera?
A:A Brownie camera is a cardboard box camera with a meniscus lens.

Q:Who invented it, and when?
A: The brownie camera was invented by Eastman Kodak. Eastman Kodak Invented the camera in 1900's.

Q:How did it change society, and of course, the photography world?
A:some people thought there was no need to buy such a expensive camera for a quality of photography while or people thought it was a good camera for amateurs.

Web Assignment #2

1. What is a daguerreotype? What did the surface of a daguerreotype resemble? When were they prominent? What photographic process did the daguerreotype replace?  
   A:Daguerreotype is the first successful photographic process. The surface resembled a mirror. Daguerreotype was prominent during the 1840's. The daguerreotype replaced camera obscura. Camera obscura is where the artist would have to manually trace what they saw.

2. What is an "albumen" print? What was the main "ingredient" of the albumen process? When did the albumen process die out?
   A:Albumen print is a photographic print paper based  from a negative. The main ingredient in  albumen print is egg whites. The type of toner depend on what type of toner you used.

4. What is a "carte de visite?" What were they used for?
    A:It was a small photograph which was patented in Paris. The "carte de visite" was used so that family and friends could have photos of they people fighting in the American Civil War.

5. Who were Matthew Brady and Alexander Gardner? They both are notable for what type of photography? When were they active? Post two noteworthy photographs for each photographer.
   A: Matthew Brady was a photographer from the 19th century. He was mostly famous for portraits of celebrities and documentation of the civil war. Alexander Gardner is a photographer who emigrated from scotland in 1856. He's mostly known for his photographs of  the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln, They were both know for imperial Photographs. they were both active during the 1800s.

Nicéphore Niépce was born march 7, 1765. He was born with the name Joseph Niépce but later on adopted the name Nicéphore. He was a french inventor, Nicéphore is noted as one of the inventors of photography,

B. What photograph was he known for?
He was known for "View from the Window at le Gras"


C. What was noteworthy and important about this photograph?
It was the first successful permanent photograph

D. Where was the photo taken?
The photo was taken at Saint-Loup-de-Varennes

E. How long did it take to make the exposure?
It took 8 hours for the photo to be exposed and since it took so long you can see that the building are illuminated left to right.

F. What year was the photo taken?
1826 or 1827.
